Five Dysfunctions of a Team - #5 Inattention to Results

Have you read "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team?"

I've been writing a short series in my weekly email, summarizing and reflecting on the book, and the feedback has been positive, so I’m sharing my cliff-note articles here.

I invite you to email me your comments or questions, as I'd love to hear about your experiences working on either a healthy or unhealthy team.

#5 Dysfunction - Inattention to Results

Results are measures of success.

Once a team lacks trust, can’t have hard conversations, loses team member buy-in, and lacks accountability, it’s no surprise that results…well, they suffer.

Inattention to Results is evidenced by:

1) Outcomes are consistently below past production or present expectations, so it feels better to avoid talking about them.

2) Prior high standards of excellence become just about “what’s good enough.”

3) High team member turnover (top talent leaves for greener pastures).

No one wants to stay on a sinking ship.

When a team is this dysfunctional, there is often so much gossip, drama, and sideways energy that it might feel almost comical to have a conversation about results.

Leadership likely needs an overhaul, and a functional thriving team pyramid must be rebuilt from the ground up.

Now, when the leaders in your life come looking to YOU for help building a new, healthy team, you can read back through this series (or better yet, read the book itself) and put a plan for success in place.

You got this! You don’t need permission. Just go lead. 💪
