A Famous Holiday Home Quiz

Below are seven famous homes from popular holiday movies or tv episodes.

How many can you identify?

Bonus points if you can guess within $50,000 of their current Zestimates.

1. Do you recognize this real-life Airbnb?

That’s right. It’s the English cottage that inspired the Hollywood set for the popular movie The Holiday.

(This wasn’t intended to be a trick question, but it sort of is. The home exterior was built just for show and the interior shots were filmed on sets.)

The real-life inspiration was available on Airbnb for a while, but has since been removed. You can see some of the old photos here. The average nightly rent was $356.

Read more about it here and get some tips on how to copy its style.

2. Not exactly “break-in” proof…

Okay, this is an easy one.

The Home Alone mansion is famously located at 671 Lincoln Ave., just outside of Chicago.

You can check out the recent $5,250,000 listing on Zillow and see the remodeled interior.

I’ll be honest, I miss the old red and green interior design vibes.

3. Another easy one…

The lamp gives it away.

This iconic home from A Christmas Story is located in Cleveland, Ohio and is a popular museum. Tours are offered for $20 per person.

Check it out here.

4. This one is a bit tougher…

This home is a classic, located in a north suburb of Chicago, last sold in 2016 for $2.4 million after first being listed for $3,625,000 (current Zestimate is $2.8M).

Sounds like the sellers were hoping for a miracle, which is a funny joke because…

It’s the home from “Miracle on 34th Street.”

A bargain compared to the Home Alone house, and with 5 beds, 8 bathrooms, and 5,964 sq. ft, it has plenty of room for you and all your holiday guests.

5. The toughest one yet…I think.

This one is famous, not for the house, but for what happened when a certain someone fell off the roof and landed in the front yard.

That’s right, it’s the home from The Santa Clause, located in Toronto, CA.

You can read about a guy who geeked out and drove around the see the sites from this movie here.

Or you can watch this real estate video (no sales price data available) from when the home was listed for sale in 2018. Oddly, the agents make no mention of the home’s Hollywood history.

Real Estate Note: if someone falls off your roof and dies in your front yard, you don’t have to disclose it as it’s not considered a material defect of the property.*

*not legal advice. I’m not a lawyer.

6. A 2019 version of a 1989 movie house…

Perhaps you could identify this one more easily if it had a few Christmas lights on it.

It’s the National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation house - actually just one home on an entire street of homes on the backlot of a Warner Bros. Ranch facility in Burbank, Los Angeles.

I had to include this one because it’s the same home featured in the recent hit show WandaVision and it sits next door to the home from Lethal Weapon.

This article breaks it all down.

Sorry, no Zestimates for this one.

7. The Most Random House of All

This one is a bit more obscure, and it’s by far the most random and the most interesting - in my opinion.

This home is from The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022), and it is the personal home of popular Christian music artist David Crowder.

See the home in this movie clip starting at the 28-second mark.

Crowder’s wife Toni is a designer (together they previously and quasi-famously restored the home of the inventor of Dr. Pepper down in Waco, Texas).

With this Atlanta suburb home, they transformed the ugliest home in the neighborhood into a Hollywood-caliber construction.

You can watch a full home tour here. The home is full of surprises.

The part about the bathroom lights is amazing. And the basement music studio. And the back patio with the underground subwoofers.

Current Zestimate: $3,323,300

That’s the quiz.
